The Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH) has issued a warning about a recent Mpox outbreak in the county, with a total of nine cases reported so far. The affected individuals range in age from 17 to 44 years old and are experiencing symptoms such as lesions and rashes on their bodies, resembling a pimple or blister-like rash.
Local medical providers and CCBH clinics in Parma and Warrensville Heights are offering diagnostic testing and the Jynneos Mpox vaccine to those in need. Appointments with CCBH nurses can be scheduled by calling 216-201-2041 or emailing [email protected]. More information about Mpox and the outbreak can be found on the CCBH website.
Mpox is spread through skin-to-skin contact and respiratory secretions, such as coughing or sneezing. Individuals at higher risk include those with multiple sexual partners, a history of sexually transmitted infections, or who engage in anonymous or commercial sex. Proper diagnoses, treatment, and the Jynneos vaccine can prevent Mpox and reduce its spread.
Infected individuals should be isolated until all scabs have fallen off and new skin has formed, a process that can take weeks. Organizations like the Central Outreach Wellness Center and LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland are providing education, vaccines, and support to those affected by the outbreak.
As summer approaches and public events increase, the community expects to see more Mpox cases. However, efforts are being made to keep numbers low and educate the public on prevention methods. Stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect yourself and others from Mpox.
